Risk factor albumin-creatinine ratio
Urinary excretion of microalbumin indicates kidney damage – often found in patients with diabetes and hypertension – and is a recognized risk factor for progression of kidney and cardiovascular disease. Parallel measurement of creatinine and albumin to diagnose microalbuminuria makes collection of 24-hour urine samples obsolete, as the albumin-to-creatinine ratio allows to correct variations in diuresis.
